Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion treatments are a
minimally abrasive procedure
using an instrument to sand your
skin, removing the thicker, uneven
outer layer. This is done to treat
scarring, hyperpigmentation, dull,
aging and sun damaged skin.
Q: Who can have a
microdermabrasion treatment?
This is suitable for all skin types, but
should be avoided if you have severe
rosacea or an active acne breakout.
Q: What is a chemical peel?
A chemical peel is a treatment done
to improve the appearance of the
skin. A solution is applied causing
the skin to exfoliate, shedding
off the outer layer. It is used to correct
uneven tone, fine lines, wrinkles
and aging skin.
Q: Who should have a chemical peel?
This is suitable for all skin types
but should be avoided if you have
severe rosacea, an active acne
breakout, or sun burned skin.
Those on certain medications,
acne treatments, diabetics, or who are
immuno-compromised may
be excluded due to their physical health.
Q: What is the difference between microdermabrasion and a chemical peel?
Microdermabrasion is manual exfoliation of the dead skin cells on the epidermis, the outer layer. This encourages more rapid skin cell turnover and collagen stimulation. It is recommended to have this treatment every 4-6 weeks to maintain healthy glowing skin. This also helps your creams and serums penetrate deeper in the skin, making them more effective.
A chemical peel is applied to your skin that penetrates down to the dermis, the deeper layers of your skin and stimulates collagen and elastin. There are many types of acid used in different combinations and strengths to achieve different results.
Despite the name, you do not have to peel in order to have a good result. The peeling/flaking is more subtle depending on the peel.

Based on skin condition, a series of microdermabrasion and peel treatments are recommended every 14-21 days for 6 treatments, 2 times a year to truly benefit your skin. This encourages the skin cells to turn over more rapidly as well as compete with the melanin (pigmentation) to lighten and break it up before it reaches to the surface. The result is brand new skin that is a more plump, brighter, even toned and a softer texture to your skin. Creams and serums can penetrate more deeper, making them much more effective.
A full skin analysis is done prior to your treatment to determine the best approach to your skin care needs.
